East Woodhay and Woolton Hill
Woolton Hill is now much the larger village, having grown substantially in the last forty years, but originally East Woodhay was the main village - St Martin's is still the "Mother church". Like much of the northern part of the constituency this area is geographically and administratively in Hampshire, but postally in Berkshire, with a Reading (RG20) post code. During a recent local government reorganisation, there were proposals to bring these and other local villages into the Newbury (now West Berkshire) district - well-organised local opposition put a stop to that!Woolton Hill has a thriving post office stores and a pub that is very much a social hub for the village, The Rampant Cat. The schools here set excellent standards.

My picture, courtesy of David Sadler, shows the cross in the hamlet of East End, mid way between the two churches - St Martin's East Woodhay and St Thomas' Woolton Hill.
