Charlton was, until recently, a village to the west of Andover but, as Andover grew, Charlton became absorbed by it and there is now no discernible boundary. However, it retains much of the atmosphere of a village, with its own church, pub and village stores. The area was settled in the bronze age and by the time of the Domesday survey the village already had twenty-seven households. Today the lakes are a popular recreation place for the whole area and the local MP finds the cycle shop "Behind the Bikeshed" of great value!
